What are Augmented Reality 4D+ flashcards?

What are Augmented Reality 4D+ flashcards?

Back in December, two people recommended to me to stock augmented reality 4D+ flashcards. Thankfully the first person showed them to me, otherwise, I wouldn’t have had a clue what they were talking about! You really need to see these cards to get the total effect of them. However, I am going to try my hardest to use words (and some videos) in this blog to explain them!

What is Augmented Reality?

According to wikipedia, it’s

“a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data.”.

I have also found this definition which I think explains it easier,

“a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, thus providing a composite view.”

Maybe this video will help

What is 4D+?

Four dimensional and more. The added extra with these cards are movement and sounds.

How do they work?

You need to download a free app on your device (phone or tablet), open the app and hoover the camera of your device over the flashcard. Then look through the screen of your device and you will see the image take on four dimensions, move and in some cases, make noises. Move your device (or the card) around and you’ll be able to view the 4D image from all angels and zone into particular features. When you are finished looking close the app until you want to view them again.

How do I download an app?

If you’re like me and rarely download apps, then doing it can be something that gets put on the long finger! So, here’s a reminder of how to do it! Open your ‘play store’ on your device, put in the name of the app (these differ depending on which cards you purchase). It will appear as a free app. Download it onto your device and bob’s your uncle!

How much does the App cost?

The apps that go with these cards are free and they work on any Apple or Android device. To my knowledge they don’t work with windows.

What age are they for?

This kind of depends on your child’s interests, the set of cards you choose and also your willingness to let your child use your device!

I would say that the Octaland 4D+ flashcards are suitable for children aged 3 years and over. They are designed to help children learn the letters of the alphabet, so each card has a large letter printed on the back. On the front is a name of a person beginning with that letter, an occupation beginning with that letter and a picture of someone doing that occupation. For example – J – Jenny- Jockey. The images are cartoon like and there’s background music on as you watch Jenny and her horse canter around and jump a hurdle. I think that once children have learn the alphabet, they may grow tired of the Octaland cards (approx 6 or 7 years old)

If you choose the Animal and animal foods augmented reality 4D+ flashcards, I think, again they would suit 3 year olds but also older children. Like the Octaland flashcards, there’s one for every alphabet letter but these images aren’t cartoon form and look really like the actual animal. Younger children may find these slightly frightening, depending on the child. Older children (and adults) will be intrigued by details on the animal and you can also use the app to find out details about the animal that you may not already know. There is no background music with these cards, instead, you will hear the animal making noises.

In my opinion, the Space 4D+ cards are not as suitable for younger children (unless they are really interested in space) but would suit children aged 6+ up until  (and including) adults. Again, you can bring up details on your device using the app, about the space item you are looking at.

I’m sure as more questions come in about these cards, I’ll add to this blog, but for now, I hope this helps you get your head around the augmented reality 4D+ flashcards from Octagon Studio. Personally, they have gone down really well in our home and anyone I’ve showed them to, has been really impressed. If you do buy them (or already have some) please feel free to comment below and let everyone know how you found them and any tips you’d like to share with fellow consumers! Thanks,

xx Suzie
